The logo: Langres, the Encyclopédie, a sun

At the end of August 2025, we moved to Langres, Diderot's town. At the same moment, the idea of Beau came to life. The idea is simple: there are two of us, Julien and me, each with twenty or thirty years of archives asleep on hard drives and a craft of the image — graphic design, film and digital photography, CGI, AI. And the desire to create images made for the wall, images you hang, look at, and that endure. Is it beautiful, or is it not?

Before the plates of the Encyclopédie

The logo took a long time to find — until a visit to the Maison des Lumières, standing before the plates showing the construction of the Encyclopédie's letterforms. And with them, the whole spirit of the Enlightenment. They passed on knowledge to everyone; we, more modestly, pass on beauty. Julien and I have always believed that life is more beautiful surrounded by beautiful things. What remained was to modernise Pierre-Simon Fournier's typefaces without losing any of their simplicity.

A sun, an eye, a question

And to distil the idea into a single symbol: a sun, an eye, an energy, a mark of punctuation. Everyone sees in it what they wish. That is Beau: a question — what is beauty? The series will try to answer it.
