Our process
Beau Edition grew out of two crafts: photography and art direction. Years of shoots, studios and layouts have led to one simple conviction: the idea leads, never the tool.
Along the way, we have lived through several technical revolutions: from film to digital, from digital to computer-generated imagery, from computer-generated imagery to generative imagery. Each had to be learned, tested, tamed. None has replaced the others: every tool has its strengths and its weaknesses, and knowing them is how we know which one to call on.
Each series begins with a theme and an image to reach. The technique comes after, chosen to serve that image. Film or digital photography, scanning, drawing, collage, computer-generated imagery, generative imagery: we draw on every tool of still-image making, and readily combine them within a single series, sometimes within a single work.
The technique adapts to the image, not the other way round. It dictates neither subject nor style; it bends to what the series sets out to show.
For transparency, the technique behind each work is stated on its page.
The print. Whatever the origin of the image, every work is printed to fine art standards, on Hahnemühle paper or directly on aluminium, then framed to order.
